Director of eCommerce

Position overview
The Director of eCommerce will lead website development and the launch, marketing and maintenance of our new online store, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. Working with our retail operating team the Director will be responsible for product selection, merchandising, site usability, and functionality that enriches the customer experience and maximizes sales conversions and profitability.

Functional Responsibilities

Website Development

  • Manage website development process from project initiation and budgeting through to launch
  • Serve as key company contact for internal teams and third party vendors
  • Participate in research and selection of ecommerce platform and inventory management systems
  • Help determine merchandising strategy and tactics to support primary and niche merchandise categories

Site Management

  • Design and implement online store functionality and continuously refine online store performance through quarterly testing plans
  • Develop and manage annual business/marketing plan in support of online goals and objectives
  • Determine product focus for niche categories and highlight on site
  • Purchase special buys for online specific sales
  • Manage online inventory
  • Direct Electronic Media Manager and sales clerks in day-to-day site maintenance and processing of sales transactions
  • Keep up to date on latest trends and ecommerce technological advances
  • Constantly review and monitor competitive sites for best practices and other opportunities that will improve store performance

Marketing

  • Develop and implement annual and quarterly promotion plans
  • Develop and execute customer acquisition, retention and engagement campaigns through inbound and outbound marketing tactics to drive sales
  • Coordinate social media and other tools to promote sales on site
  • Track and improve site performance through Google Analytics analysis and other inbound marketing tools

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of the online marketing and merchandising environment
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative while also being comfortable in a team atmosphere
  • Minimum five years of experience in ecommerce management and development preferably related to outdoor sports sales and promotion
  • Familiarity with online marketing tools for tracking, evaluating and maximizing sales performance
  • Experience with usability and website functionality
  • Experience with web analytics programs
